Resumen:
Polymers containing phenanthroline pendant groupswere the focus of several investigations over the pastdecade, due to their fluorescent capabilities whencomplexing with lanthanides1,2. On the other hand,chloromethylated polystyrene was modified using 5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline, and used for Fe3+ or Ru4+complexation. The resulting materials could be used tocarried out some oxidations under mild conditions.Considering all this background, we decided tosynthesize a new monomer derived from 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline to obtain a copolymer withmethyl methacrylate (MMA) for further testing inlanthanide recovery from aqueous solutions.
