Resumen:
The present chapter deals with the syntesis, chemistry and biodegradation of starch and starch-based blends materials. An extense review was done on the subject. The work intend to generalize the relation between type of starch with the properties. The blend of starch with other biodegradable polymers are ussually done, because starch absorb much water and it has low elongation at break. The main key factors which should be taken into account in the preparation of blends, as well as, their relation with the morphology and  final mechanical properties were explained. The different biodegradation routes were also cited.
