Resumen:
The aim of this work is to explore the potential 10 use as catalyst in aromatic hydrocarbons removal, a natural 11 zeolite loaded with zerovalent iron. For this purpose, an 12 iron precursor, FeSO47H2O, was first imbibed, later 13 reduced and confined on the surface and/or inside of a 14 zeolite, being present in a form of a-Fe nanoparticles with 15 good catalytic properties. The supported catalyst samples 16 were characterized structurally and morphologically. Ben- 17 zene was selected to represent the organic contamination in 18 these experiments. Fixed bed experiments were conducted 19 using a vertical glass column. A saturated aqueous benzene 20 solution (22.5 mM) was continuously pumped (0.5 ml/ 21 min) into the column simultaneously with the amount of 22 H2O2 (30 %) necessary (12.5 ml) for the reaction in up 23 flow mode. The pH was fixed at 3?4 with a buffer solution. 24 All experiments were performed at 20 C. The hydraulic 25 retention time of benzene inside the column was estimated 26 in 40 min. Benzene degradation, in the presented experi- 27 mental conditions, is near 80 % and the process shows 28 good stability for at least 600 min. Neither Fe(II) nor 29 Fe(III) is detected in the eluded solution. This novel het- 30 erogeneous catalyst was demonstrated as a potent Fenton 31 catalyst which provided an attractive alternative for the
