Resumen:
This article presents an analysis of a spearhead found nearFortlet Miñana, a settlement about 50 km south of the cityof Azul in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Occupiedfrom 1860 to 1863, the circular fort was protected by amoat and used to defend nearby farms and villages fromattacks by indigenous people. Metal spears were used byboth the military cavalry forces and indigenous warriors.The Archaeometallurgy Group of the University of BuenosAires analyzed the spearhead to determine the techniquesemployed in its manufacture and link these techniques toactivities in the area surrounding the fort. The analysis involvedelectrolytic cleaning followed by a nondestructiveoptical metallographic inspection.I
