Resumen:
The present research contributes to a better understanding of the hunter-gatherer transition to agropastoralist societies in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) from the perspective of flaked stone tools. We study human behavior through lithic technology, that is, by means of the analysis of variability and change in stone tools and the techniques that produced them. Our theoretical background implies that technology does not only consist of physical items of material culture but also human action and technological behavior. From this perspective, lithic technology research includes the integrated study of tools and other artefacts, raw materials, physical actions and technical skills. Hence, technological variability assessed through the analysis of its content, including techniques, wisdom, skill, designs and resources used. Methodologically, a macroscopic and morphological-descriptive analysis developed by Aschero (1975, 1983) are followed. Modifications and incorporations to the classificatory scheme are introduced.
