Resumen:
The authorities of the Association of American Geographers and, in particular, to Professor Douglas Richardson, Executive Director of Association of American Geographers ?AAG- invited to GÆA Argentine Society of Geographical Studies, one of the first nonprofit scientific and educational associations of Geography in Argentina, to speak at the Annual Meeting 2012, celebrated at New York , 24-28 th February, within the frame of Snapshots. Geography in the World Today Panel Session. This session provided an excellent opportunity to meet and exchange information with colleagues from many other countries. The proposal was to speak about the current status of geography in every country, with comments on expected trends and future directions. Then, I was there in my capacity as Secretary of their institution to talk you about GÆA contribution to the advances of Geography in Argentina. Our theme was titled GÆA Argentina Society of Geographical Studies and the state of Geography in Argentina. It was an excellent opportunity because GÆA has been joined to AAG for many decades from 1922. GÆA is a scientific institution whose aim has been, from its origins, to contribute to the production of geographical knowledge to benefit the science and the Argentine society. It is one of the oldest and prestigious institutions from Argentina, modeled by the job of many important historic, scientific, political and cultural personalities in Argentina. Every year, the Society organizes a scientific congress: the Geography Week- Semana de Geografía-. The first one was carried out in 1936, when these meetings were exceptional among scientists. They are celebrated annually at different cities in the country and the number 73 will be take place at Buenos Aires in 2012.  It is the annual scientific meeting in Argentina, devoted to geographical research. Nowadays, GÆA shares its interests in theory, methods, and practice of geography with other emblematic public and private institutions such as the IGN Instituto Geográfico Nacional (dependent from the Ministry of Defense), the Academia Nacional de Geografía, different Public and Private Universities and Teaching Training Institutes.
