Resumen:
The University of Toronto 1992-1997 Tell er Rub´a (Mendes) Excavations produced a small number of black ware vessels of the Ptolemaic period. Described as a “prestige pottery”, black ware is not of frequent occurrence in Egyptian sites. A limited number of local centres are known to have produced this kind of ware imitating imported prototypes. The question of the origin of the Tell er Rubá black ware is discussed in this paper.
