Resumen:
The biogeochemical reactions brought about by water saturation in hydromorphic soil horizons of the Pampean region have been studied for some time by means of conventional chemical characterizations. The transformations produce denitration, depletion of the Fe and Mn contents, sulfide and methane production. These processes involve redox reactions which are usually characterized by measurements of the redox potential, and the contents of Fe2+, Mn2+ and NO3-. In the present work, we have applied Mössbauer spectroscopy as well as the traditional chemical analyses to assess the contents of different states of Fe oxides and hydroxides in an Entisol soil  belonging to the Argentine coastal plain of the Rio de La Plata.      The biogeochemical reactions brought about by water saturation in hydromorphic soil horizons of the Pampean region have been studied for some time by means of conventional chemical characterizations.
