Resumen:
Presentado en forma de poster durante el simposioThe Faculty of Science of National University of La Plata (UNLP) offers ten graduate degrees among them Physics, Medical Physics and Chemistry and Environmental Technology. In their curricula are included three courses which deal with radioactivity and radiation detection (Quantum Experiments, The Nucleus and Their Radiations and Radioactivity and Environment). Recently, a course oriented to graduate from different specialties (lawyers, physicians, science teachers, etc) was offered using the virtual platform available at the UNLP.The courses provide an introduction to the basic properties of ionizing radiations and their uses in medicine, industry, science, and environmental studies according to the student`s group. Topics like natural and man-made radiation sources, energy deposition and dose calculations, and various physical, chemical, and biological processes and effects of radiation are also discussed. The courses include theory, examples and laboratory activities. In the case of graduate course, its evaluation was performed using the ?aulasweb? virtual facility, enabling an on-line examination. The main objectives of the courses are:Acquire an understanding of nuclear radiation physics and detection principles.Gain knowledge and skills on radiation detection, counting and spectrometry including shielding and health physics, as well as in radioactive sample preparation.Achieve the necessary tools to identify radionuclides presence and quantify and report radionuclides activities determining uncertainty and detection limits.Obtain basic criteria to evaluate contamination risks associated with different uses of radioactive material. This work resumes the strategies adopted in order to achieve the above objectives. An analysis of the different course achievements and the student?s response was also presented. Changes in the preconception about radioactivity on the students are also discussed.
