he manifestations of the proposed weakly interacting U-boson arestudied in a hadronic medium. For this purpose we consider hadronicmatter electrically neutral and stable against beta decay. Specialattention is paid to the possible transition to a quark deconfinedphase. Under this conditions we evaluate the equation of state,taking the unknown baryon-U boson coupling as a variable. Theresults are applied to investigate the structure of neutron stars.We find that the transition to deconfined quark matter enhances themaximum star mass, reducing its radius. However, the predictions cannot accommodate massive objects such as the recently observed PSRJ1614 2230.
