Resumen:
Twelve species of four genera comprising the 70% of the Commelinaceae from the NE Argentina flora were chromosomally counted. For Commelina benghalensis L. var. benghalensis (n=11, 2n=2x=22), C. diffusa Burm. f. var. gigas (Small) Faden (2n=6x=90), C. erecta L. (2n=4x=60), C. obliqua Vahl (2n=4x=60), C. platyphylla Klotzsch ex Seub. (2n=2x=30), Tradescantia pallida (Rose) D.R. Hunt (n=12, 2n=4x=24), T. zebrina Heynh. ex Bosse (n=12, 2n=4x= 24) and Tripogandra glandulosa (Seub.) Rohweder (n=8, 2n=2x=16), the chromosome counts agree with previous. A new cytotype is reported for Dichorisandra hexandra (Aubl.) Standl. (n=38, 2n=4x=76). For Tradescantia anagallidea Seub. (n=30, 2n=60), the somatic and the gametic chromosome numbers are reported firstly. In addition, the gametic chromosome number of Tradescantia fluminensis Vell. (n=20, 2n=40) and Tripogandra diuretica (Mart.) Handlos (n=32, 2n=8x=64), is obtained for first. Ploidy levels and cytotype distribution are discussed within Commelinaceae.
