Resumen:
This note tries to clarify some mistakes concerning the spelling and authorship of the genus Homalodotherium and the family Homalodotheriidae. The confusion comes from the original full description by Flower, where the author changed the original spelling Homalodotherium by Homalodontotherium. At the same time, Flower presented a short abstract where he maintained the name Homalodotherium. The earlier publication of the abstract validates the latter name, though Homalodontotherium was used during decades. The family Homalodontotheridae was created by Ameghino; years later, Gregory corrected the spelling to Homalodotheriidae, but this is an automatic correction that does not justify the taxon authoring change.
