Resumen:
Natural radionuclides contained in groundwater have radiobiological significance because they are a direct route for population internal exposure due to water intake. Thus, the determination of the natural activity concentration levels is important to evaluate activity concentration abnormalities and exposition doses. Therefore, the buildup of baselines of natural activity concentrations of radionuclides in freshwater embodies an essential issue. Several studies have been carried out in South America regarding the radionuclide contents in groundwater of the Guaraní and Puelche aquifers. Here, the measured natural radionuclide activities reported in the literature are compiled and compared. The disclosed annual committed effective dose for the member of public is contrasted with the international recommended annual dose limits and local regulations.
