Resumen:
SUMMARYSchinus molle var. areira is a widely spread species in Quebrada de Humahuaca,Jujuy, Argentina, that is very useful to the population. The healthy development ofthis vegetable can be affected by Tolype guentheri (Berg) (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae),a univoltine insect species whose caterpillars may cause total defoliation of plañís.The object of our research was to acquire further knowledge on oophagusinsects that attack T. guentheri in their egg stage, their incidence on this species, theirdistribution and biological aspects.Samples were obtained in places located between 2,000 and 2,310 masl. Each random sampling consisted of 40 T. guentheri ovipositions obtained from thelower part of plants, and 20 samples gathered from the upper part of the shrubs.Laboratory studies recorded the emergehce of Lepidoptera larvae or theirparasitoids. Entomophagus insects present in the área were: Horismenus sp (Hym.Eulophidae) and Telenomus sp. of the califomicus complex (Hym. Scelionidae). Thelatter showed the highest mortality rate (39 %). Horismenus sp reaches 3.04% parasitoidlevéis. Distribution and coexistence of tríese two species were also analyzed.
