Resumen:
ABSTRACTSevere damage was observed in cultivated carrots in Jujeño pre-Puna due to Listronotus dauci(Brethes). This study aimed at their life cycle stages providing information on population fluctuations, andassessing the damage caused by this species.Laboratory conditions to process field gathered material included 21 ± 2°C and 58± 5 percent relativehumidity. From egg to pupa, stages take 80 ± 5 days (egg: 20 ± 9 days; larvae, 43 ± 1; and pupae, 16 days).Samplings were made since seed to harvest time (September to April) at a D. carota L. cultivation sitein San Roque, Jujuy, at 2,900 m.a.s.l. The samples consisted in blocks of earth (25x25x5 cm) and tenplants picked up at random. State and number of weevils, cultivation phenology, and meteorologicalchanges were included in the report. Pupae were detected on the ground during the plantule stage of thecultivation. The largest number of larvae (171/10 pl - 131/10 pl) was recorded in February and March, when carrots reached optimum size to be harvested. All carrots showed galleries on their upper end. Adultweevils showed máximum abundance (14 Ad/10 pl) at harvest time.
