Resumen:
In this work, the evolution process of the Design Support System (DSS) for instrumentation design is described. This DSS helps the user to make a global rigorous analysis of the relationship between state variables in order to get a correct proposal to monitor the plant effectively. A useful decision-support system (DSS) for instrumentation design was refurbished to meet the present-day needs the process-design and control engineers these days require. The complete procedure involves making engineering-level decisions concerning the addition or removal of sensors at various points. The purpose of this work is to describe how an existing DSS was turned into a robust trustworthy user- and developer-friendly system. The original system´s design, architecture, and functionality were revised. This involved reviewing the code and the data structures so as to improve the programming language and the information support structures. The system´s components and their interrelations were identified, and a representation with a higher level of abstraction was created through the incorporation of both the object-oriented and the component-oriented paradigms. Some classes for the representation of flowsheet structural input data, which are associated with streams and process units, were defined.
