Resumen:
The availability of water was extremely important to hunter-gatherers living in arid environments. In Patagonia, variations in the availability of water in different areas have been linked to human concentration or abandonment of some areas, or to changes in the way areas were used. In addition, some researchers have identified technological changes in Patagonia during the Holocene, which have been linked to different causes. In this paper we analyze the main archaeological changes in two areas, with different environmental characteristics, within the framework of the organization of technology: the Chico and Santa Cruz River basins. These basins are located at different latitudes, have different water and rock shelter availability, and are at variable distances from forest. The main changes observed are analyzed within the context of changing environmental and social environments, taking into account the different time scales involved in the proxy data utilized. We hope our results provide useful information about the synchronicity- or not- of archaeological and environmental changes and also shed light on the causes of these changes.
