Resumen:
The present book summarizes the basic and fundamental aspects of hydrogels uses in differents industries, such us biotechnological, pharmaceutical, pollulant removal, circular economy, and food applications, among others. This book provides a useful resource for professionals and reserchers actively involved in the development synthetic and natural hydrogels, as well as postgraduate students and postdoctoral research fellows in materials sciences. The book is divided in six chapters contributed by experts in their research field in order to provide a clear overview of each topic that describes ?The application of hydrogels?.?Post-synthesis modification of polymers for the development of functional dynamic covalent? describes different post-synthesis modifications strategies to achieve self-healing capacity and the shape memory by the incorporation of reversible covalent bonds, supramolecular bonds, or other types of reversible interactions.?Stimuli-responsive hydrogels and its applications in diverse fields? describes last innovations in the field of stimuli-responsive polymeric hydrogels by the application of minor external physical electric and magnetic fields, temperature and pH, as well as, the study of mechanism of responsiveness and the applicability derived from these characteristics.?Conventional and innovative food applications of alginate-based hydrogels? describes the most conventional applications of alginate hydrogels in food. Particularly is exploerd their application in restructured food, immobilization and encapsulation systems, absorption of heavy metal ions, as well as coatings for food packaging.?Hydrogels based on 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and itaconic acid as controlled drug release systems? describes the hydrogel-based systems for drug release emphasizing the recent advances on polymeric systems based on acrylate and itaconic acid, highlighting swelling and release properties of these polymeric systems.?Alginate loaded montmorillonite beads adsorption of cationic pollutants? describes different synthesis, characterization, and optimization of alginate beads loaded with different amounts of montmorillonite clays, as well as the kinetic behavior in the presence of cationic contaminants.?Environmental application of alginate hydrogel composites impact on heavy metals and pharmaceutical pollutants removal? describes the application of alternative adsorbent materials based on alginate and alginate composiste to remove heavy metals and pharmaceutical residues that environmental impact in water sources.
