Resumen:
In the development of low surface energy materials, it is a common approach to introduce a fluorinated group onto a polymer backbone in order to create a fluorinated surface coating. The carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest organic bonds. The introduction of trifluoromethyl (-CF3) groups into polymers improves chemical resistance, surface, electrical, mechanical, and optical properties of the polymers compared to the non fluorinated materials (Stansbury and Antonucci, 1999; Bondiovanni et al., 1997). In this work we report a convenient way to synthesizing a thermally stable, thermoplastic, and hydrophobic polymer containing -CF3 groups. The fluorinated polymer (FP) was used to modify an epoxy matrix. The main objectives of the work reported here are to analyze the morphologies that are generated along with the associated thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties of the resulting materials.
