Resumen:
The decline of amphibian populations in
Argentina is still an open question. As quoted by
Lavilla et al. (2000), almost no supporting data
exists and this lack of information has of severa1
causes, including the absence of previous studies,
the funds for field research and long term
monitoring programmes.
h spite of these constraints, and Sa& with
the necessity to estimate the conservation status of
the Argentinean amphibians, a group of specialists
analysed the four species of Gymnophiona and the
167 taxa of Anura that inhabit the country.
The information presented here is a synthesis of
the results of two Workshops for the
Categorization o£ the Argentinean
Herpetofauna, held in September, 1998 and
March, 2000, plus an extremely rich and
constant interaction among specialists.
