Preparation and magnetic characterization of chitosan/magnetite nanocomposite films

Magnetic chitosan nanocomposites were prepared by in situ precipitation of the iron oxide particles. Both plasticized and no-plasticized films with different amount of magnetite nanoparticles (MNP) were obtained and magnetically characterized. The results indicate a super-paramagnetic behaviorfor the non-plasticized films with 5, 7 and 10 % wt. MNP, and for all the plasticized films. Magnetometry and TEM analysis show an increase in the nanoparticles size with the increase in the magnetite contentand an increase in the dipolar interactions with the addition of glycerol.
