Biodegradable Films Made from Sodium Caseinate

The aim of this study was to manufacture and characterize edible films made from sodium caseinate plasticized with glycerol, which will be reinforced with chitosan in the near future. Caseinate films plasticized with glycerol were successfully prepared and mechanically characterized. Diluted caseinate-water solutions allows to prepare odorless, colorless and transparent films, while more concentrated ones leads to yellowish and more heterogeneous films. The glycerol as well the moisture content of the samples greatly influence the tensile response.
