Resumen:
The karyotype of three species of the genus CardiospermumL. was analyzed: C. pterocarpum Radlk. (2n= 22; 16 m + 6 sm); C. integerrimum RadIk. (2n= 14; 8m + 2 sm + 2 st + 2 t) and C. grandiflorum Sw. (2n = 16 m + 4 sm). The´ former counts are new records. The basic number x= 7 found in C. integerrimum establishes the lower hapIoid number known not only for Sapindaceae but Sapindales from the New World as well.  T´he karyotypes of C. integerrimum and C. grandiflorum, the only species of section Ceratadenia Radlk. are compared. Evolutionary value of main morphological characters,  that make it possible recognized these two species, and their relationship with the rest of the genus are discussed. The first count for the genus Diplokeleba N.E. Brown, D. floribunda N.E. Brown (2n=30) is also reported
