A global method was developed to determine the vaporisation rate of the metal from the on-line analysis of exhaust gas. The method is an inverse method, which involves only the measured concentration of heavy metal in the exhaust gases and a model developed at the reactor scale. The inverse method consists in identifying the HM vaporisation rates at the particle level from only the on-line diagnostic results and using the developed bubbling bed model, whatever the considered waste. A model waste (solid matrix derived from real waste that was spiked with a heavy metal: Cd, Pb or Zn) was burned in a laboratory-scale fluidised bed to simulate the metal?s release during the waste incineration. An on-line analysis system was linked to the gas outlet of the reactor, and the metal vaporisation process was tracked successfully by measuring continuously by ICP-OES the relative HM concentration in exhaust gases.
