Resumen:
Craneal skeleton development of Sibynomorphus turgidus (Serpentes: Colubridae). This paper deals with the chondrocranium and the sequences of ossification of the whole osteocranium. The desription is based on the five embryos of Sibynomorphus turgidus which belongs to different stages of development, according to the life table of Thamnophis sirtalis (Zehr, 1962). The most remarkable are: trabecuale disposition; absence of a process in the crista sellaris; ossification of the bones; laterosphenoid origin; basiparasphenoid development; basioccipital development and occlusion of the posterior region of basicraneal fenestra, and the presence of supratemporal on the stage 36 only (absent in adults). The results of the study are used to compare them with the development of other colubrids. Key words: Serpentes, Colubridae, Sibynomorphus turgidus, cranial skeleton, herpetology.
