Resumen:
Essential oils from six South-American species of Conyza Less. (Asteraceae: Astereae): C. albida Willd., C. bonariensis (L.) Cronq., C. blakei Cabr., C. glandulitecta Cabr., C. sumatrensis (Retz.) E. Walker and C. primulaefolia (Lam.) Cuatr. & Lourteig were analised by GC-MC and Retention Indices in order to determine their profiles in mono- and sesquiterpenic compounds. Some of these species, weeds generally widespread in areas with subtropical and temperate climate, are used in folk medicine to treat ulcers and digestive disorders. Results demonstrate that, from the thirty eight compound characterised, (Z)- and (E)-ocimene, trans-caryophyllene, a-humulene, germacrene-D, bicycle-germacrene, trans-neridol, caryophyllene-oxide and a-cadinol are common to all species analyzed, whereas dl-limonene is present in all species exept C. primulaefolia. Muurolol <epi-a> and d-cadinene are absent in C. sumatrensis, as well as spathulenol and a non-identified compound only in C. grandulitecta and b-farnesene is absent in C. blakei and C. primulaefolia. Isocomene and acoredienol are restricted to C. bonariensis. Other compounds exhibited different patterns of distribution among species.
