Resumen:
Abstract The glacial Patagonian sequence is one of the most complete and complex of the Southern Hemisphere and probably, of the entire world. The excellent preservation of the ancient glacial sequences was favored by interstratifications between lava sheets and glacigenic deposits. Besides, the semiarid and arid climates in the Extra-Andean tablelands where they are placed have reduced running water erosion. The glacial sequence identified during the SALMA Sanandresense and Ensenadense mammal-ages, developed between 2.5-0.5 Ma, demonstrate the occurrence of very intense, frequent and significative climatic changes in the southern tip of South America.
