Resumen:
Acetaminophen oxidation from aqueous solution by the UV/H2O2 process is evaluated and studied. A well-stirred annular batch photoreactor was used to perform the experiences. Different levels of H2O2 were used at the same pollutant concentration. It can be observed that Total Organic Carbon can be reduced 80 % in 3 hours, while acetaminophen is almost completely degraded in 30 minutes using a hydrogen peroxide concentration of 130 ppm. This behaviour is related with different intermediates that appear during the reaction that can be detected with chromatographic techniques (HPLC ? GC). According to the first results the process is effective for acetaminophen degradation at low hydrogen peroxide concentrations, reaching almost total mineralization in 3 hours. More experiments should be conducted in order to optimize the process and study its kinetics
