Case studies in areas of building, cattle, agriculture and energy will be presented. In all cases, thedriving force was the need of developing new market niches for smalland medium size Argentinian companies using their existing technicalcapabilities and minimum investment. Building, cattle, agriculture and energy areimportant economic activities and play a crucial role on the socialdevelopment in developing countries. However, they use to occur withvery conservative technologies. Their inertial scale preventstechnical evolution in a sustainable direction. In other words, thetechnological evolution of building, cattle, agriculture and energyis slower than the required evolution of those technologies towarrant shelter and food in a sustainablemanner. As consequence, the improvement of the quality of life indeveloping countries is carried out over-exploiting natural resourceswithout sustainable vision. Theexamples present simple and economically profitable green chemistryissues and the smart use of water polymers. The general concept is todetect key actions in the production chain that can bring big impacton the economy and sustainability performance of resulting products.Light building materials, controlled drug release in animalhusbandry, controlled release of agrochemicals and liquefied biomassfuels were developed by using very small amounts of water solublepolymers in mastering the water function in key steps of productionchains. All cases are accompanied with economic analysis.
