Resumen:
Monodisperse polymer colloids with carboxyl functionality were synthesized through a two-step emulsion
polymerization process. The synthesized ?core-shell? particles were used as support for their sensitization (by covalent
coupling) with antigens of Trypanosoma cruzi, Toxoplasmas gondii and Leptospira interrogans. The resulting
latex-protein complexes were used in immunoagglutination assays for detecting Chagas disease, Toxoplasmosis and
Leptospirosis, respectively. In all cases, high fractions of proteins chemically-bound to carboxyl groups were observed
and all latex-protein complex allowed discrimination between sera from infected and non-infected patients
