Over recentyears, the hormone 17-a-ethinylestradiol (EE2) has been found in the discharge watersof sewage treatment plants, indicating the incomplete removal of this pollutantby conventional methods. Photocatalysis with TiO2 is an advanced oxidationprocess that has been successfully applied for the degradation of organicspecies resistant to conventional water treatments [1]. The use ofmicroreactors for the study of photocatalytic reactions allow more accuratecontrol of operation variables and more uniform irradiation through the entire reactionspace compared to conventional photoreactors [2]. The aim of this work is theevaluation of the photocatalytic activity of pure and ceriumdoped TiO2 filmsfor the degradation of EE2 in aqueous solution using a continuous flow microreactor.
