In the present work, a pilot-plant scale solar photoreactor has been modeled and photo- Fenton experiments were performed using formic acid as a model pollutant. A thermal energy balance in the system was resolved, in which the thermal radiation and the ambient temperature were considered transient. From this balance, the temperature predictions as a function of time were obtained. The thermal parameters of the reactor were estimated from shaded tests and measurements of temperature in sunny days. Then, the radiative transfer equation and the thermal energy and mass balances were resolved to compute the formic acid and hydrogen peroxide concentrations as a function of time. The UV and total solar radiation was calculated from a computational code: the SMARTS2 program. Predictions of the theoretical model were compared with experimental results for hydrogen peroxide to formic acid initial concentration ratio (R) equal to 5 and good agreement was observed.
