The rising integration between the electricity and natural gas sectors is due to the growth of natural gas fired power plants, performing as producers for the former and consumers for the latter. This linkage between energy carriers also leads to a coupling of the storage evolution of hydroelectric power generation with reservoirs and natural gas storages facilities. Therefore, the optimal planning a storage facility also depends on the results of the rest of the facilities involved, so the problem cannot be solved separately. This paper shows the linking between hydroelectric reservoirs and natural gas storage facilities when operational planning problem is solved in an integrated manner. This work also introduces economic parameters for the valuation of the energy stored in hydro reservoirs and natural gas storages facilities, arising from the results of the overall problem.
