Energy storage systems (ESS) can provide economic benefits to users connected to the distribution network and the Distribution Network Operator (DNO). In a scenario of hourly electric energy pricing, prosumers ?DNO clients who can also produce electrical energy from non-dispatchable resources- (i.e. solar photovoltaic panels), can store their energy production by means of ESS, for later consumption or injection to the distribution network, when DNO electricity price is high, obtaining economic benefit for it. We consider that Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) schedule the ESS charge and discharge operation with knowledge of energy prices, demand and photovoltaic generation forecasts for each hour in the next day to maximize prosumers? benefit. We simulate the HEMS control actions in response to different dynamic pricings and we quantify how these results affect the DNO in terms of its economic interests.
