This article analyses transformations (or changes) in land use between mountainous regions and their foothills in southern Poland and central-western Argentina. It focuses on territorial disputes that generate change and in turn result from changes in land use. The empirical basis is data derived from the analysis of satellite images and in-depth interviews with rural producers, administrators and technicians. The case study approach of the research, representing different research areas, allows a better understanding of how each region has its own unique characteristics that shape the dynamics of socio-territorial change and its drivers. Among the main findings, the influence of the global market and tourism, expressed in different ways in each territory, and the different responses of key actors in each place analysed, stand out.
