Resumen:
The degradation of paracetamol (PCT) by photo-Fenton reaction at near neutral pH with the aid of ferrioxalate and a solar simulator was evaluated. The aim of this work was to analyse the effect of hydrogen peroxide (HP) dosage over the efficiency of the process. The dosage strategy consisted of 2 pulses of the same volume of HP standard solution. Regarding degradation of PCT, when dosing HP better results were obtained. The major difference found in the conversions of PCT at 180 min of reaction were 82 and 28 %, with and without dosing HP, respectively (experiments without radiation and [HP]=189 mgL-1). About HP consumption as a function of PCT degradation, in the case of HP dosage, lower values were obtained. Furthermore, a real groundwater sample was analysed, showing better TOC conversions when HP was added in two pulses Thus, the beneficial effect of the HP dosage on the reaction system was demonstrated.
