Resumen:
As the prevalence of obesity continues to increase, further research is needed to understand the pathwaysand mechanisms linking a chronic positive energybalance to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), cancerand ageing. AT macrophages and other immune cellscan be activated by pathogen-associated molecularpatterns (PAMPs) that enter the blood from dysbiosis inthe gut. FFAs, pro-inflammatory cytokines, oxidizedmacromolecules and PAMPs lead to systemicinflammation, the leading cause of obesity-associatedNCDs, including neurodegenerative, metabolic andautoimmune diseases, as well as cancer and ageing, ingenetically susceptible patients. Understanding themolecular basis controlling appetite, gut dysbiosis andAT inflammation will lead to better mechanism-basedtherapies against obesity-related NCDs. This SpecialIssue welcomes, but is not limited to, information on themolecular mechanisms and mechanism-basedtherapeutics against obesity-associated comorbidities.
