Resumen:
CPV is a very contagious and fatal viral disease. Although live attenuated vaccines are available, viral evolution leads to several episodes of CPV throughout the world even in vaccinated animals. In this case, we analyzed 166 rectal swabs of dogs showing gastroenteritis signs, and we detect CPV VP2 DNA in 98 of them. The obtained PCR fragments were sequenced, and we found that the CPV2c strain, detected in the worldwide canine population since the year 2000, become the predominant strain in the Argentine?s dog population. Moreover, the Vp2 full length genes of CPV Argentinean strains were cloned, as a first step in the development of a DNA updated vaccine.
