ABSTRACT: Canine distemper virus (CDV) hasbeen reported worldwide in wild carnivores andhas beencited as the cause of population declinesin some species. Crab-eating foxes (Cerdocyonthous) fromEl PalmarNational Park, Argentina,were observed either dead or exhibiting clinicalneurologic signs. Samples were taken from twoindividuals thatwere later foundtobepositive forCDV by direct immunofluorescence in braintissue. Based on molecular studies, the CDVstrainhada highpercentageof identitycomparedtoCDVstrains affectingdogs inArgentina.This isthe first report of CDV infection in wildcarnivores in Argentina.Key words: Argentina, canine distemper,Cerdocyon thous, crab-eating fox.
