Resumen:
Background and aims: Euterpe edulis Mart. is an endemic palm of the Atlantic Forest of biocultural importance whose germination power decreases with dehydration. It represents an economic resource whose use is changing. At present in Misiones, Argentina, the pulp of the fruit is marketed as food and the seeds for the production of ornamental plants. To evaluate if this double use of the fruits is possible with local management, tests on germination power and seedling survival were carried out.M&M: In fruits stored with pulp and pulped, the percentage of germination of the seeds, the germination speed index, the percentage of survival of the seedlings, and the number of viable and non-viable non-germinated seeds were compared. The relative price increase of one kg of pulped fruits was estimated. Results: No significant differences were found in any of the treatments. Although the pulped seeds stored showed a higher germination speed index, a slight increase in survival was also observed in fruits with mechanical pulping. About the increase in the commercial value of the kg of pulped fruits, it is recommended to increase the value of the kg of pulped fruits by 50%.Conclusions: The storage of the previously pulped fruits does not affect the germination of the E. edulis seeds and improves the survival of the seedlings, which is why it is concluded that double use of the fruits is possible: that is, the extraction of the pulp and production in nurseries.
