Resumen:
The paper discusses some recent developments in the urban scene of the city of Buenos Aires related to the policies of the military dictatorship that ruled the country during the period 1976-1983, and the ore recent effects of the democratization process. After presenting the basic data on the city, the paper presents data of a longitudinal study of everyday life of urban poor households, showing the shifting ways in which the families organize their wellbeing and their relationship to state agencies.
