Analysis of societal and culgtural transformations in the context of policies of regional integration in MERCOSUR. The integration proposed in Mercosur porvides a good opportunity to explore the ways in which such processes affect the development of social movements. The article shows how the framework of Mercosur operates to foster new activities --dialogues, exchanges, contacts and conflicts-- between various social actors and agents. This framework is having a pardoxical effect: as an attempt is made to produce a new collective "us" which is regional in scope, national "partial" identities are reaffirmed.
