Resumen:
The paper points out that there is no abstract, universal type of women, but various groups of women immersed in systems of class relations. Women have different types of domestic responsibilities, ranging from those who have to perform domestic tasks by themselves to those who can hire domestic help. The domestic responsiblities affect the type of market work which women are able to accept. Also important are the networks of interpresonal relations in explaining the interacitons between economic activities and domestic responsibilities, insofar as these networks play a significant role in determining the degrees of independence of women.
