Resumen:
The microalgae based wastewater treatment of agroindustrial effluents can potentially achieve more efficiency than conventional treatment reducing wastewater management costs, especially in small and medium-sized dairy industries, where no sewage treatments are implemented.The present study analyzed the performance in mesocosm of two species of microalgae in mixtures of two dairy industry effluents. Results indicate that it is possible to treat Liquid Cow Manure and Second Cheese Whey with microalgae. Furthermore, the combination of both effluents overcomes the main obstacles reported for the treatment of each of these two effluents. Scenedesmus dimorphus was able to grow in a mixture of 50% of each of these two wastewaters and eliminate 90% of P-PO4, 96% of N-NO3 and 70% of N-NH4, dominating the culture at all times.
