This contribution focuses on Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (United Nations, 2015), which is concerned with peace, justice and strong institutions in its interface with national and international regulations that structure the child protection system in Argentina. Considering childhood constitutes a global common good, the capability approach is a robust framework that, together with the socio-legal perspective of law, allows for the introduction of theoretical and practical aspects to examine the workflow of institutional processes in governmental settings of juvenile justice in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The case of 19-year-old Grace in the Criminal Court for Children will help highlight sensitive aspects concerning children’s participation, autonomy and capacities in interpersonal, family and legal conflicts. It offers new evidence to improve the judicial and social care processes, services, norms and protocols to face mobilities and instabilities and to reduce hermeneutic injustices, developing capacities in children, their families and their communities.
