Resumen:
Development of new materials enrichedwith noble metal ions, such assilver, cobalt or copper, is ofgreat interest in the field ofcommercial and medical productsdue to its action against fungusand bacteria. Although a largenumber of products are chemicallyactive against microorganisms, they are usually limited to fabricsfor medical bandages and sportswearin order to avoid, respectively, infections and odors. On the otherhand, sol-gel technology becomesthe preparation of hybrid materialspossible with introduction of differentcomponents, as inorganic saltsor organic additives within itsstructure bringing up the possibilityto develop functional materialsfor different purposes. In thiswork, the development of an antibacterialcoating for metallic substratesis presented. The coating consistsin a hybrid organic-inorganic sol-gelmaterial doped with silver. Therelation between the structureof the hybrid matrix, aggregationstate of silver ions, and biocide
