Del turismo cultural al rural. Un caso de la pampa bonaerense (Argentina)

This article examines the tourism development in Exaltación de la Cruz district (Argentina), oriented by the local administration. We are interested in analyzing how local/global processes impact on the configuration of tourism modalities, by selecting and commodifying natural (rural) and historic/cultural elements. The information presented in this article was constructed during fieldwork in the main city of the district, Capilla del Señor, from 2011 to 2015. We argue that guidelines established in the cultural heritage process were implemented to create, initially, a cultural tourism, which consolidates certain discourses and representations of the city. Also, tourism uses flexible criteria, oriented by global market demands. Hence, rural elements, previously disparaged, are now activated by tourism.
