Improvements in the cImprovements in the calculation of the SIRGAS IWV from the availability of the ERA5

At the beginning of 2016, the ERA5 began to produce a set of climate re-analysis data to replace ERA Interim. The new ERA5 data set generated by the Copernicus Climate Change Service, which is part of the European Union Earth monitoring program and implemented by ECMWF, is now available for public use. Thanks to the availability of these data, an advance in the calculation of water vapor (IWV) has been allowed since it provides hourly data of atmospheric parameters that are used to calculate it.The main advantage of this new data set compared to ERA Interim, which favor the calculation of the IWV, is its temporal resolution, since the output frequency is now 1 hour instead it was 6 hours before. At present, we obtain 24 daily values of Pressure and Temperature for the calculation of Water Vapor, which allow not to waste the ZTD obtained from SIRGAS that are also every 1 hour.This study presents an analysis of the new series of IWV products calculated with ERA5 data for 5 years (2014 to 2018), from the ZTD obtained in the GNSS stations of the SIRGAS-CON network, and their comparison with the previously calculated ones. and validated from the supplies that ERA Interim offered.
