Contribution of tropospheric water vapor values to meteorology and climate study, from the observations of the Latin American network SIRGAS-CON

Thanks to the availability of GNSS observations of the SIRGAS-CON stations, and the weekly solution of the total zenith delay (ZTD) calculated by SIRGAS Analysis Centers, it has been possible to obtain the ZTD estimation of the stations from the combination of the individual solutions of each densification subnet.Then, as presented at the SIRGAS 2017 meeting, it was possible to calculate the values of the wet zenith delay (ZWD) and the integrated water vapor (IWV), with a sampling interval of 6 hours (0, 6, 12 and 18 UT ), by station. The IWV time series for 4 years (January 2014 to December 2017) have been completed in the total of operational or historical SIRGAS-CON stations.This work presents some products that CIMA, as a center of experimental analysis of neutral atmosphere of SIRGAS, contributes to the Latin American community and to the knowledge of Meteorology in diverse regions covered by the SIRGAS-CON network.An analysis of the mean values of the IWV is presented in each station, which showed a significant correlation with the climatic characteristics of the different zones included in the territory (tropical, subtropical, mountain, desert, etc). The temporal behavior of the variable was evaluated according to the geodesic latitude, the height of the site and the regional characteristic.According to the presented results, this work allows to demonstrate that the SIRGAS-CON network can be considered a monitoring network of the Tropospheric Water Vapor variable, on the Latin American region. The results shown are a significant contribution to climate research and to the understanding of atmospheric processes in the region. In addition, the extensive time series are a significant contribution to monitor the daily, seasonal, annual and semi-annual variability of the IWV and characterize them regionally.
