Resumen:
There have been tremendous advances in the understanding of how probiotics can regulate the mucosal immune system. This book focuses on the description and analysis of the recent advances in immunoregulatory probiotics and highlights some of the exciting developments that have shed light on how these microbes enhance the physiological functionality of the gut and its associated immune system, as well as the systemic and distant mucosal immune systems. We covered general aspects of immunobiotics and immunogenics including their role in intestinal hemostasis and defense not only in humans but also in animals; their new applications in diseases far from the gut such as skin or respiratory defenses; the potential and possible modes of action of LAB and bifidobacteria with immunoregulatory effects highlighting the great progress in the understanding of immunobiotic/immunogenic cellular and molecular interactions with host cells that has been achieved in the past years.
